Music Music I Love Music

When I was in 3rd grade, my mom started me on piano lessons. I did not look forward to them. I had a very strict teacher who had 3 smelly dogs and wore very short shorts. She often dozed off during my lessons and I felt like playing piano was boring.

We moved the summer before 9th grade and I got a new teacher who helped me realize what a blessing it is to play piano. She helped me find music that I was interested in and I started taking an interest in getting "good" at playing piano.

Now, at 25 years old - I am SO glad I took those piano lessons (a.k.a my mom made me stay in them).
Music is such a huge part of my life.

{pretty cool that I married an audio guy huh?}

Of course I love the Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninoff music out there. But I love anything with

instrumental and vocal beauty.

Lately I've been loving The Weepies. Other favorite bands include: Stars, Travis, Wilco, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Shins, Postal Service, Guster, Imogen Heap, Feist, and Andrew Bird.

If you haven't done so yet, check out Mr. Gregory Alan Isakov. My favorite song of his? "Big Black Car"

It's transcendent.

wilco and radiohead are two bands i have neglected since high school, and need to rekindle.

The Relief Soceity (and my mom) also appreciate your mom for making you stick with piano : )

Excellent call on The Weepies--really liking them! And speaking of solid instrumentals, I want to go out on a limb and suggest Nickel Creek to you (assuming you aren't already familiar). They're a bluegrassy band, but cool, no spoon slapping or jug blowing. Hopefully this works--here's a little playlist to introduce you to them: http://www.playlist.com/playlist/17823201035.

First track was their most popular song, second is just an instrumental and the last track is a pretty rocking cover of Britney Spears's Toxic. Love it.
